Children's Stories

Isaac Shukurani Kombe

I was only 2 months old when my mummy died and I was left in the care of my Aunty.

She was very poor and couldn’t afford to feed me. When I came to Mission in Action I was 7 months old and weighed only 4 kg. I was slowly starving to death and wouldn’t have lived to my 1st birthday. Now I am almost 2years old. I am very happy, healthy and cheeky.

My hobbies are eating, eating and eating. I love to ride my truck and play with blocks.

Bonfas Otieno

My mummy ran away and left me in the care of my daddy when I was only 2 weeks old.

But my dad became a drunkard and didn't take care of me. As I got older I used to crawl on my bottom to the road and beg for food.

I was found by Mission in Action on the 31st May 2004. I was 3 1/2 years, very skinny and weak and I still couldn't walk or talk. Now I can run, sing and smile.

I love to play with cars, blocks and ride my bike. Even though I visit with my Dad, Mission in Action is my new home and I am very happy here.

Diana Chebet

I came to Mission In Action on the 18th March 2005.
My mummy died of TB when I was 3 years old and I was left in the care of my grandparents. but because they were both drunkards I used to get neglected. I was always hungry, dirty and covered in sores.

My uncle, who loved me very much, wanted me to have a better future so he brought me to Mission in Action. Now I am very happy and healthy.

I enjoy doing puzzles, drawing, singing and playing on the swings.

Diana is HIV Positive

Joshua Maina

I was abandoned at Birth by my mother because she had Aids and had passed it on to me, so I spent the first 3 1/2 Months of
my life in Hospital because I had no where else to go.

Then on the 30th May 2005 I was taken in by
Mission in Action which has now become my new home.

With the care of Mission in Action I have a good chance of overcoming the HIV virus.

I intend to grow up to be strong and healthy.

Laura Malova

This is Laura. She came to Mission in Action on the 24th of June.

Laura was abandoned because she was conceived due to incest. In her tribe she would normally be killed or thrown away by the mother, because the mother believes it would bring a curse upon her if she kept the baby. If Laura was a boy she would have been sold.

Mildred Alivisa

Millie was also abandoned at birth for the same reason as Laura.

She came to Mission in Action on the 27th of June 2005.

Even though she was a sick little girl, she is now healthy and growing. Millie is a victim of HIV. D.O.B. 11th June 2005.
